PPPL Project

Novel paper pallet and manufacturing technology

About the project

Pallets are essential accessories of the transport of goods, as they have the potential to handle a large quantity of products quickly and efficiently. During the past decades wooden pallets became dominant players of the market for their affordable prices. Plastic and metal pallets are only available in a minimum quantity, since their prices are several times higher than the prices of wooden pallets.

Despite their numerous disadvantages, thanks to their affordable prices, no substitute alternatives for wooden pallets could be found until now. Owing to their restricted and mostly distant availability, paper pallets are currently not competitive with wood, moreover their technical parameters (static and dynamic load) leave only limited scope for replacing wooden pallets. For economic and environmental protection reasons, a significant demand is shown at present for cheap paper pallets customizable to the terms of delivery, provided that they are easily available and can replace wooden pallets. This demand appears at the same time at several million companies in the world, who wish to reduce their costs related to pallets towards the transportation industry providing services to them, and who currently spend euro billions for unnecessary fuel.

Taking advantage of the market potential, GGP developed and patented a cost-efficient and heavy-duty paper pallet, which offers a solution for the problem. Together with B&T, GGP has planned a compact manufacturing process to the individually designed, patented and ISO certified paper pallet, which can be mass-produced quickly in the form of a production line. This is how PPPL (Paper Pallet Production Line) was born.

PPPL is a production line affordable for industrial players who use pallets in their everyday business. Using PPPL they are able to manufacture custom-designed pallets in a cost-efficient and quickly recoverable way. Our aim is not just to sell paper pallets, but we are also planning to sell the PPPL technology.

The project aim is to integrate the paper pallet manufacturing steps into a fully automatic production line (PPPL) where no manual input is needed and a single GGP paper pallet can be produced in 11 seconds.

Project consortium

Plastic-Form Ltd - B&T (DE) – Coordinator

B&T is a midsize company with 41 co-workers, until the establishment in 1999 by Jozsef BALOGH our main domains were the building of installations and machines, also metal processing, tool construction and die production. We have expanded our range of services in the last few years and we managed to cope with the newest challenges of the market. We produce CAD-data or custom-made by our powerful construction department by master part, drawings or even by the customer’s specifications: moulding tools, injection mould- and punching tools, small series and mass production, prototypes, test and research objects and high-quality single items. We work with the standard software Catia in 3D and with MegaCAD in 2D. Almost any data formats can be processed.

GreenGlobePack Ltd. – GGP (HU) – Technology owner partner

GreenGlobePack Ltd. was established in June 2015 to carry the conception of a paper pallet factory into execution, tends to be a new participant on the logistics and packaging technologies market. In the second half of 2013, before establishment we started working out the conception and product planning, product development. The company’s activities are now to create the modern and highly-efficient paper pallet production line’s plans and to create the best paper pallet to be achieved as a finished product. In the preparation phase we arranged professional consultation with numerous pallet producers, paper pallet producers, pallet users (production and distribution companies).

The aim of those consultations were the identifying of possibilities, collecting market information, establishing many trading contacts and the implementing experiences into product development. We researched the paper pallet licences available on the market, but taking economical and/or technical issues into consideration the company’s owners decided to develop the company’s own paper pallet concept. According to that the company committed itself to primarily define the exact technical parameters of a paper pallet achieving an astonishingly-professional quality level and to design the capable production line needed for effective mass production. Parallel to that the company analysed the collected market information and experiences and adopted them into creating the business concept and the business plan.
